What is a good CTR? Meta and Search benchmarks

Compare Meta and Google Search CTR with dated agency and industry benchmarks. Learn which clicks to count and what to fix when clicks fail to become orders.

A useful starting reference is roughly 2.4% reported CTR on Meta and 6.66% on Search. Those figures come from the dated public reports below. A good CTR also brings buyers at an acquisition cost your orders can carry.

Our Indian agency data adds 2.49% reported-click CTR for the four-brand sales/catalogue-labelled subset. The wider five-brand mixed-campaign pool recorded 3.17% from 8 April to 5 November 2026. Choose the matching campaign and click field before judging your creative.

The public source is Triple Whale’s Meta report, published 17 August 2026. It describes an international customer sample and reports a median. The agency readings pool clicks and impressions before dividing.

Method note: agency coverage varies by brand. We sum observed INR campaign rows in India-store reporting scope. The subset selects sales/catalogue/DPA names and excludes explicit awareness, engagement, traffic, profile visits and upper-funnel event labels. It is a naming filter, with varied delivery markets and objectives. The source click field is reported clicks; the link-click subtype is unverified.

For your own sales campaign, use outbound or link clicks to inspect store-bound response. Then read landing-page arrivals and purchases. An ad encouraging comments or profile visits can increase all-click CTR while sending little additional traffic to the store.

How to calculate click-through rate

CTR is clicks divided by impressions, multiplied by 100. Google’s CTR definition uses that formula and explains that the advertising context affects what counts as good performance.

Worked example: an ad receives 500 clicks from 50,000 impressions. Its CTR is 1%. If a narrower outbound-click column contains 300 clicks, outbound CTR is 0.6%. Both figures can appear in the same account without a reporting error.

Use the exact column name in the weekly sheet. Save the date range, campaign objective and destination with the export. That makes it possible to compare the same measurement after a creative change. A spreadsheet headed only “CTR” leaves the most useful part of the definition out.

For the wider agency sample, 14,85,344 reported clicks divided by 4,68,24,130 impressions gives 3.17% after rounding. Pool the counts first. Averaging daily percentages gives a quiet day the same influence as a day with much heavier delivery.

What is a good CTR for Google Ads?

WordStream’s 2025 Search benchmark report recorded 6.66% CTR across Google and Microsoft Search. Its observation window was April 2024 to March 2025 and covered more than 16,000 campaigns. This is a separate Search reference, rather than a Meta or Indian ecommerce result.

Start your own Search review by splitting brand queries from non-brand queries. Someone searching for your store name has already expressed a different intent from someone researching a product category. Combining the two can conceal weak discovery campaigns behind strong brand demand.

Read the search terms actually served. A change in query mix can move CTR even when the headline stays the same. Check that the ad answers the query and the landing page presents the matching product. For a price-led query, hiding the price until checkout creates a gap between the click promise and the shopping experience.

Keep Search separate from Display and mixed inventory. A person typing a product query and a person seeing a visual ad while browsing are in different situations. Choose a benchmark for the same channel, then look at whether qualified orders follow the clicks.

Why higher CTR can still mean fewer orders

Worked example: hold impressions and spend constant. Use website-bound clicks throughout.

ItemCreative ACreative B
Impressions1,00,0001,00,000
Ad spend₹10,000₹10,000
Website clicks1,0002,000
Website-click CTR1%2%
Orders per website click2%0.5%
Orders2010
Cost per order₹500₹1,000

Creative B doubles click response but produces half the orders. Its message attracts a wider, less productive traffic pool under these assumptions. Creative A earns the better acquisition result even though its CTR looks weaker.

Look for the promise attracting those clicks. A discount headline that the product page fails to explain can create curiosity and disappointment in the same visit. An attractive product demonstration with the price visible gives the visitor more information before arriving. Test that difference against order outcomes.

Pair CTR with the CPM reference. Together, delivery price and click response determine the price of traffic. The next step is checking what that traffic buys and what the order leaves after costs.

How to improve a low CTR

Begin with the product. Show it clearly in the opening frame or headline. Make the use case easy to understand. A viewer should know which problem the product addresses before being asked to click through for a long explanation.

Then inspect the offer. Keep the advertised price, bundle and conditions consistent with the destination. If an ad promotes a specific variant, link to that variant or make it easy to find. Sending a precise product promise to a broad collection forces the shopper to restart the search.

Inspect placement delivery before rewriting everything. Check where the ad lost response and whether the creative fits that format. A crop that hides the product or an unreadable price can damage the first impression. Fix the visible problem and record the change.

Run a focused creative test. Keep the audience job and destination stable while changing the opening or product explanation. Write the purchase outcome and spending boundary in advance. That turns the result into a decision about the next creative, instead of a contest to produce the highest click percentage.

A CTR report a founder can act on

Give the team enough information to connect the creative to the order:

  • The exact click column, impression count and click count.
  • Campaign job, destination and the main delivery market.
  • Landing-page arrivals and the cost of useful traffic.
  • Purchase count, revenue basis and contribution per order.
  • The creative change being tested and the period observed.

Review basket mix if the traffic changes. An ad featuring a premium product can attract fewer clicks and larger orders. An entry-price offer can attract more clicks and smaller baskets. Our AOV guide shows how to assess the offer’s contribution, while the ROAS guide turns that contribution into an acquisition ceiling.

Save the winning creative’s message as well as its result. Note the product shown, the audience problem it addresses and the offer the shopper sees after clicking. Use those notes to brief the next variation. They are more useful than asking a designer to repeat a percentage without understanding the promise behind it.

Bring that complete view to the free benchmark review. The team can then prioritise the creative, page or offer change that addresses the loss between impression and completed order.
